Scaynes Hill 1s vs Ansty 2s Match Report
Saturday saw an opportunity for the 2s to bounce
back from a disappointing defeat to Cuckfield the
previous week that saw individual errors depict the
verdict of the game. A strong second team turned
up to a new venue on a hot day that promised to
be a really tough test. The game resulted in being
all about application and on the day it was Ansty
that prevailed.
James Whybrow’s half century underlined the
importance of perseverance on a tough wicket as
he batted the majority of the innings in tough
circumstance with scoreboard pressure. Cameos
around him from skipper Will Dorkings, debutant
Alex Gorton and Resident 2s legend Slim allowed
the visitors to post a very respectable 161 off their
40 overs.
The way the chase started was always going to be
key. Hadfield and Wilson back together as the
opening pair thrived on a good pitch keeping
things tight, building pressure and grabbing an
early 4 poles for the boys from Ansty. At 30/4 it
really was ours to lose. From there, Alex Gorton
seized the initiative with 4 quick wickets after
another sensational bowling performance from
Megan Janman. It was great to see James Nutter
with ball in hand again too, as he sealed the win
with wicket number 10.
After this terrific performance, the “fun XI” move up
to second in the table and take plenty of positives
into Saturdays local derby with Haywards Heath.
Massive thank you to Scaynes Hill as well who
were excellent hosts. Hadders signing off.
