Scaynes Hill 1s vs Ansty 2s Match Report Saturday saw an opportunity for the 2s to bounce back from a disappointing defeat to Cuckfield the previous week that saw individual errors depict the verdict of the game. A strong second team turned up to a new venue on a hot day that promised to be a really tough test. The game resulted in being all about application and on the day it was Ansty that prevailed. James Whybrow’s half century underlined the importance of perseverance on a tough wicket as he batted the majority of the innings in tough circumstance with scoreboard pressure. Cameos around him from skipper Will Dorkings, debutant Alex Gorton and Resident 2s legend Slim allowed the visitors to post a very respectable 161 off their 40 overs. The way the chase started was always going to be key. Hadfield and Wilson back together as the opening pair thrived on a good pitch keeping things tight, building pressure and grabbing an early 4 poles for the boys from Ansty. At 30/4 it really was ours to lose. From there, Alex Gorton seized the initiative with 4 quick wickets after another sensational bowling performance from Megan Janman. It was great to see James Nutter with ball in hand again too, as he sealed the win with wicket number 10. After this terrific performance, the “fun XI” move up to second in the table and take plenty of positives into Saturdays local derby with Haywards Heath.
